Workshop to Washroom

Workshop to Washroom

I’m Ron Phillips, founder of R F Philips Co, and I’ve spent my life working with beautiful, traditional taps and bathrooms.

After years in the bathroom trade and then retiring, I found myself facing the usual boredom— every day felt like the same old thing. Then one day, while chatting with a friend, he said I should do something with taps as I know so much. Now I find myself returning to where it all began — taps. They must be traditional, of the best quality, and British made.

Back at Barber Wilsons, we once made taps for the Queen Mother’s bathroom, complete with indices set with diamonds in a crown. That memory has inspired me to offer personalised indices today — whether for a hotel, football club, child’s bathroom in fact anything you would like to put on them.

Every order is special and bespoke and made for you. It may take time to produce, but it will be worth the wait.
Made with passion and a love of British craftsmanship.

  • My career began at Barber Wilsons, one of Britain’s oldest tap makers, where I worked on the machine floor and learned the skills and precision needed to produce traditional taps.

  • After Barber Wilsons, I took my passion for traditional taps to the streets — refurbishing original Victorian and Edwardian taps and selling them at Camden Market. At the time, this was unusual, but within a short while we became the place to shop for taps.

  • I then opened a shop in Muswell Hill,
    North London, called
    Bathing Beauties.
    We specialised in original bathrooms
and soon grew into a full design and fitting business.

  • As the business developed, we began manufacturing our own pieces, including an
Empire basin stand, high-level cistern, and a matching mirror, Bringing truly bespoke elements to our projects. We also introduced a bath enamelling service, refurbishing original baths which we supplied to architects and designers. This side of the business opened the door to working on prestigious projects in hotels such as Claridge’s and The Metropolitan.

  • A key part of this period was my collaboration with
    Christo,.
He supplied us with taps, which we fitted with our own specially designed ceramic indices — a signature detail that gave every project its own individuality and perfectly rounded off the
    Bathing Beauties ethos.

  • Eventually Bathing Beauties grew into a full design and fitting business. We were among the first to use CGI visualisations to show clients how their finished bathrooms would look — far ahead of its time.
Because of this, manufacturers began asking us to produce CGI renders for them,. Some of our clients included William Holland, Hurlingham Baths and Bowhouse, the image on he left was for Arteform plus others.

Carrying on the Tradition

After 23 years in our Muswell Hill shop.
We decided to call it a day and moved to Suffolk . A few years later, my wife suggested I follow my passion once more.
So as I have a love of antiques and beautiful things I opened a Antique and collectables emporium,
which we ran happily for six years until Covid forced us to close.

R F Phillips & Co is me ,
Following in the footsteps of great makers like F. Bolding,
George Jennings, Thomas Crapper
and of course
my great friend who I really miss
